What is the Copper Foundation?
In Summer 2017 we made a commitment to help people struggling to find employment back into work – The Copper Foundation was born.
It gives people a 12 month paid contract working outdoors on our external improvement programme. Making our communities look great with things like new fencing, walls, pathways and gates.
But that’s not all, lots of fantastic training support and guidance is on offer throughout the year to give people the best chance of securing more work once the contract ends.
How Copper Has Changed Lives
As a result of a successful 12 months on the Copper Foundation, Lewis now works for our Neighbourhood Team.
Speaking about his new job as a Neighbourhood Assistant, Lewis said:
“I’m over the moon to have landed this new opportunity. I’ve learned a great deal by being part of the Copper Foundation project. I’ve worked with a great bunch of boys and had fantastic training and support from my supervisors and manager. I love working outdoors and hope I will be able to use lots of the skills I’ve learned with the Copper Foundation in my new job.”
Lewis' best bit:
“I’m much more confident now, it's been great to be able to continue my career with Tai Tarian.”
Jade joined the Copper Foundation in Summer 2018, working in an area she had never considered before.
“Being a single mum finding work has always been difficult. Working in my own community, enhancing areas and people’s outdoor space is something quite special, it makes you really feel proud of the work we are doing.”
Jade's best bit?
"Firstly having my own money and independence but I would never have considered this type of work before. It’s made me realise that this is what I want to do and I really don’t want this experience to end."
