How to apply
We manage over 9000 properties across Neath Port Talbot, from family homes, to apartments, and bungalows to specialist accommodation for people over 55.

Properties that become available for rent are advertised on this website every weekend, but before you can bid for a new home, you will need to apply to join our waiting list.  This is so we can assess what type of property you can bid for and how urgent your need for a home is. We allocate homes to those who need one most urgently.

IMPORTANT - If you are in urgent need of housing because you are homeless or about to become homeless, please contact Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council’s housing options team on 01639 685219 or visit https://www.npt.gov.uk/1200

Please be aware that although we own 9070 properties, there is an extremely high demand for homes in Neath Port Talbot, with only a fraction of our properties becoming available every year:

What happens next?

Once your application has been accepted, you will be allocated a housing band and category.

There are four bands and they indicate how urgent your need for housing is:

  • Urgent
  • Gold
  • Silver
  • Bronze

Your category shows what size home you are eligible for, so 1 means you can apply for a one-bedroom home, 2 is a two-bedroom home, and so on.

Once you have your banding and category, you can start looking for suitable properties. To do this, log-on to https://hbc.taitarian.co.uk between 8.30am every Friday and 12pm on the following Monday.

You will see listings of the homes we have available that week and you will be able to register an interest, or ‘bid’ as we call it, on any properties that you are eligible for.

Once the bidding process closes at lunchtime on Monday, our team will go through all the bids received on each property and then allocate it to the successful bidder. If you’ve been successful, you’ll be invited to view the property and decide if you wish to accept the offer.

Due to the number of applicants we have, it is not possible to contact unsuccessful bidders.  If you haven’t heard from us by the Tuesday afternoon, you can assume you haven’t been successful this week, but are able to bid again the following week.

Please note - If you are not able to upload all documents required, you can still submit your application and provide the documents at a later stage. Your application may be held or remain in the bronze band until the necessary documentation is received.

If you do not complete and submit your application within 28 days, it will be cancelled and you will have to start the process again.
