New homes for veterans

Monday 03 November 2025

Tai Tarian has been awarded £1 million from the Veterans’ Capital Housing Fund to build six new homes for veterans in Sandfields, Port Talbot. This funding is part of a wider £4.5 million investment awarded to 19 organisations across the UK to build 45 new homes and make critical refurbishments for veterans and their families. It forms a key part of the UK Government’s £20 million Capital Housing investment, aimed at delivering on its Plan for Change commitment to provide “homes for heroes.”

The Sandfields scheme will provide six self-contained homes with shared communal areas, designed to promote independence while encouraging peer support and reducing social isolation. With many veterans choosing to return to Wales after their service, this development responds to a need for transitional housing in the Neath Port Talbot area.

The project will be delivered in collaboration with Bulldogs Boxing & Community Activities, a trusted local organisation supporting veterans and their families through wellbeing services, social activities, and access to mental health support.

Cwmpas, will also be a key partner in helping veterans shape their housing experience through co-operative and community-led approaches together with Finola Pickwell, Regional Armed Forces Covenant Liaison Officer, who will help with expert guidance and support throughout the project.

Homes are expected to be completed by late summer 2027, with planning approval anticipated in Spring 2026.

Tai Tarian Chief Executive Linda Whittaker shared her thoughts on the significance of the project:

“Supporting veterans has been a priority for us over the past few years, and this development marks a significant step forward in that journey. As signatories to the Armed Forces Covenant and holders of the Bronze Award under the Employer Recognition Scheme, we’ve worked to champion opportunities for those who have served. This funding allows us to take that commitment even further with the building of 6 new homes and the opportunity to create new communities where veterans can thrive, and feel truly supported.

Ceri Stilwell, CEO, Bulldogs Boxing & Community Activities added:

“We are extremely excited to be working in partnership with Tai Tarian on providing dedicated housing and wellbeing support to veterans in Neath Port Talbot. This will definitely strengthen our provision here at The Bulldogs and we can’t wait for the next chapter!”
